Understanding Bubble Plan Changes: Downgrades and Upgrades
Managing subscription plans on Bubble allows flexibility, but it's essential to understand how downgrades and upgrades affect your app and its features. This article outlines what happens to your app's data, features, and subscriptions during plan changes and provides guidance on switching plans.
Effects of Downgrading to the Free Plan
When you downgrade from a paid plan to the Free plan:
Feature Disabling: Paid features—including custom domains, recurring workflows, files, app data, and perpetual license plugins—are not deleted but temporarily disabled. This ensures that your app's structure remains intact. ,
Plugin Subscriptions: Any monthly plugin subscriptions will need to be re-subscribed when you upgrade back to a paid plan. ,
Data Preservation: App data remains intact during the downgrade and is restored when you upgrade.
Upgrading and Restoration of Features
When you re-upgrade to a paid plan after downgrading:
All your previously disabled features and functionalities will be fully restored, including custom domains and recurring workflows.
The workload tiers align with your billing cycle and can also resume on a paid subscription.
Switching Between Plan Types (Annual and Monthly)
If you wish to change from an annual subscription plan to a monthly one, note the following:
Bubble does not support direct switching from annual to monthly plans. Instead, you must first downgrade to the Free plan and then re-upgrade to a monthly plan.
Alternatively, wait until your annual plan is about to expire, then downgrade to the Free plan, allowing you to activate a monthly plan.
Prorated Credits on Downgrades
For customers switching from a higher-tier plan (e.g., Team Plan) to a lower one (e.g., Growth Plan) or to Free:
Prorated Bubble credits for any unused time on your current plan will be applied to your next renewal invoice.
Summary
Paid features are disabled but preserved during downgrades. They are restored upon re-upgrading.
Plugin subscriptions need reactivation after upgrades.
Switching between monthly and annual plans involves downgrading to Free first.
Credits are issued for unused plan time when downgrading and maintaining the same billing frequency.
