How do I take the exam?

You can register for the Bubble Developer Certification exam today by visiting certification.bubble.io. Once you’re there, take the following steps to begin the exam:
If purchasing an individual registration:
  1. Click “sign in” at this site. This will use the credentials you’ve signed in with at bubble.io. If you’re not signed in to bubble.io, it'll redirect you there so you can sign in.
  2. Next, register for the exam. Registering costs $45.00 USD and grants you two attempts to pass.
  3. Once you’ve registered, all that’s left to do is complete an ID verification process as part of the exam’s proctoring initiative.
If purchasing multiple registrations in bulk:
  1. Click “sign in” at this site. This will use the credentials you’ve signed in with at bubble.io. If you’re not signed in to bubble.io, it'll redirect you there so you can sign in.
  2. In the payment window, use the dropdown to select the number of seats you'd like to purchase including your own. You may then complete the payment.
  3. After your payment, you’ll be given a link you can share with others you wish to invite to the exam. (Note: the page with this link will only be visible to you once; you won’t be able to find it again once you navigate away. However, you'll also be emailed the link for safe-keeping.)
  4. You can now share the link to others. The number of people who can access the exam from your invite will be limited by the number of registrations you purchased. (Note: Please double check that the emails you invite are part of your agency’s list and are associated with an existing Bubble account. Users won’t be able to sign up for the exam if they aren't logged into the correct account at bubble.io.)
One registration grants each user 2 total attempts to pass within a 3-month registration window. If the user fails both attempts, they will be able to re-register for the exam after their original 3-month registration window expires.

The exam is available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — with one exception. There is a maintenance window every Monday between 12 and 5 PM ET. During that time, the exam may go offline for routine updates and fixes. We highly recommend that you plan to take the exam on any day other than Monday (ET).

What is the exam like?

The exam is a total of 90 randomized questions. The exam has a 3.5 hour time limit, but most test takers need about 2 hours to complete it.
No two exams are alike: The system randomly pulls its 90 questions from a larger pool, so the order of questions — and many of the questions themselves — will change each time. That said, each question will be clearly identified as one of three types:
  • Multiple Choice / True or False: You will only be allowed to choose ONE correct answer. For multiple-choice questions, the number of different choices will vary.
  • Multiple Answer: Formatted like a multiple-choice question, but there may be one right answer, multiple right answers, or all right answers. There’s no partial credit; you must choose the exact combination of correct answers to pass this type of question.
  • Fill-in-the-Blank: You will be asked to type the correct answer into a box. There may be multiple correct answers or multiple ways to write the correct answer. Some answers will be case-sensitive (this will be clearly noted in the question). Watch out for typos — even one incorrect character or space may be counted as incorrect!
Also be prepared to answer knowledge-based questions as well as scenario-based questions.

Bubble’s “Open-Book” and Anti-Cheating Proctoring Policies

Please read this section carefully:
PROCTORING
This exam is proctored, which means that your attempts will be recorded and analyzed by an automated platform.

You may be BLOCKED from beginning the exam if:
  • Your computer is plugged into an external monitor.
  • You do not have a working microphone.
  • You do not have a webcam.
  • You are not ready to submit a photo of your face via webcam for facial ID.
  • You do not have a photo ID on hand (a record of this ID may or may not be requested, depending on your session details).
Your exam session will be uninterrupted, but may be FLAGGED for future review if:
  • Anyone else appears on camera in your environment (you may wish to close any open doors).
  • Your phone or any other devices are nearby or accessed during the exam session.
A restroom break is allowed, but leaving your desk may also flag your exam session for future review.

When you sit down to begin the exam, you’ll have a chance to review these instructions. Once you hit “start,” the proctoring system will verify the requirements above. At the end of the verification process, be sure to share your entire window screen. Once it’s complete, you’ll proceed to the first question.

OPEN-BOOK POLICY
This is an open-book exam, which means you’re allowed to use certain online resources to help you answer questions. The resources you can use include the following:

How long is the Bubble Developer Certification valid?

As of April 1, 2025, the Bubble Developer Certification is valid for two years from the date of issue. After two years, you will need to re-certify to maintain your certification status and ensure your knowledge is up-to-date with the latest updates and features of the Bubble platform.
If you obtained your certification prior to April 1, 2025, your certification has been automatically extended to reflect the new two-year validity period. You will not need to take any additional steps until it's time for your first recertification.

This change ensures that all certified developers continue to demonstrate proficiency with the most current version of the platform, as Bubble frequently updates and introduces new features.

If you're nearing the end of your certification’s extended validity period, be sure to check for opportunities to re-certify before your certification expires.

What topics are covered in the exam? How can I study for it?

This is NOT an exam for beginners. While a few questions may cover some foundational concepts, we designed many of them to challenge expert Bubble users. Passing this exam will demonstrate that you are proficient with most facets of the Bubble platform on a professional level.
As a Bubble Developer Certification, the exam tests a nearly all-encompassing set of topics related to understanding and developing in Bubble at a professional level. Questions are randomized, and each exam experience is unique, so you may not be tested on exactly the same subject matter as others. Any given topic will likely originate from one of the following broad Bubble categories:
  • Bubble Interface
  • Layout & Styles
  • Frontend Functionality
  • Database & Security
  • Backend Functionality
  • APIs
  • Performance
You can learn more about these categories and how to prepare for the exam by signing up for the free practice questions PDF. This resource features exclusive sample questions, an answer key with explanations, and other useful information about what you can expect from the exam experience. Just find the link for practice questions on our certification page.

This exam does not cover plugins, except for Bubble’s API Connector. It also doesn’t  cover templates or the Plugin Editor. You may encounter a handful of questions that go beyond Bubble to ask about tools, resources, or practices that are relevant to web development in general. However, the vast majority of questions cover anything and everything that can be found throughout the main Bubble editor.

If you’re trying to decide whether you have enough experience to pass the exam, here are a few questions that might help:
  1. Have I been building with Bubble for more than a year?
  2. Have I built pages with a complex design?
  3. Have I built and deployed an app with live users?
  4. Have I built an app with complex backend logic?
  5. Have I worked on an app with other developers as collaborators?
  6. Have I maintained an app that has more than 100 users?
If the answer to any of these questions is “no,” that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re unprepared to take the exam. These questions just reference the kind of developer experience that we believe will solidify your understanding of the concepts the exam covers. So if you feel like any of these questions highlight a gap in your skill set, you may want to use that as a guide for where to study up.

You can also explore our library of tutorial content on the Bubble Academy, familiarize yourself with the documentation covered in our Bubble Manual, and learn more from our amazing community on the Bubble Forum, coaches, and bootcamp marketplace.

What happens if I pass the exam?

Certification is either granted or not granted on a pass/fail basis. To pass the exam, you must correctly answer at least 80% of all questions within the 3.5 hour time limit.
Passing the exam means that you become an official Bubble-Certified Developer for two years. You’ll receive a digital certificate that can be integrated with your LinkedIn profile. You’ll also have your certification status publicly visible on bubble.io. You’ll need to pass it again to keep your certification active. This is to make sure all Bubble-Certified Developers are proficient with the latest version of the Bubble platform. Bubble is always changing, and the exam pulls from a variety of ever-expanding question banks that are updated regularly.

Once you pass the exam, whether it was your first or second attempt, you won't be able to retake the exam until you are ready to re-register for a new 3-month window. Your actual passing score won't be publicly visible on any profile or on your certificate.

Does Bubble recognize certifications by any other companies?

No. While we support the many initiatives of our community, the Bubble Developer Certification is currently the only certification we recognize officially. But future official Bubble certifications are on our roadmap, so stay tuned!

Can I take the exam to certify my team or organization?

No. Certificates can only be awarded to individual Bubble Developers and cannot be awarded to companies or teams. When you register for the exam, please verify that the name associated with your Bubble account is the name of a single person and not a team (e.g., “Development Team” or “Engineering”). Any certificate completed in a team’s name will be considered invalid and may be revoked.
If you know that your principal Bubble account does not have a first and last name attached to it, please update the name in your Bubble account settings before taking the exam. That way, once you pass, your certificate will reflect the correct person’s name.

How is cheating prevented on this exam?

This exam is proctored, which means that your attempts will be recorded and analyzed by an automated platform.
You may be BLOCKED from beginning the exam if:
  • Your computer is plugged into an external monitor.
  • You do not have a working microphone.
  • You do not have a working webcam.
  • You are not ready to submit a photo of your face via webcam for facial ID.
  • You do not have a photo ID on hand (a record of this ID may or may not be requested, depending on your session details)

While this is an open-book exam, you are ONLY allowed to use certain resources and must abide by the exam’s anti-cheating rules (see our open-book policy). If a rule is violated during the exam session, your exam session will remain active. However, that moment in the recording of your exam will be flagged and reviewed afterward. If we determine that a violation has occurred, your current certification status may be invalidated. You may also bel disqualified from earning or holding a certificate indefinitely.

We know how important it is that the exam stays as secure as possible. Proctoring allows us to maintain the integrity of this exam for the benefit of the entire community by ensuring no one passes the exam through cheating. You can read more about our open-book and anti-cheating proctoring policies above.

How should I become certified if I currently work for an agency or plan to in the future?

We encourage agencies to purchase seats for the exam in bulk so employees can get certified through them.
If you work for an agency, but get certified on your personal email, there are two options.
  1. Your agency can add your certified personal email to its agency seat list.
  2. You can contact us and we can transfer your certificate from your personal email to your agency email.
Freelancers should get certified using their personal Bubble account. Then, if you’re hired by an agency, that email associated with the certificate should be added to the agency's seat list.

If you leave the agency you were certified with, we can transfer your certificate from the agency email to your personal email until your certificate expires.

For any certificate related inquiries, please visit our Support Center for assistance.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my exam session?

You can begin the exam at any time (except from 12–5 PM ET on Mondays, when it is down for maintenance). However, please be prepared for your exam session to be proctored.
Proctoring will start as soon as the exam begins and the timer starts. The service will walk you through a few key environmental checkpoints before you see the first question.

Do NOT click start on the exam if:
  • Your webcam is not working
  • Your microphone is not working
  • Your computer is plugged into an external monitor
Failure to comply with our exam guidelines could result in an automatic exam failure and/or inability to take Bubble Certifications in the future.

Remember, you’ll have 3.5 hours total before the exam session expires. We’ve found that most exam-takers usually only need around 2.5 hours to finish.

Lastly, please ensure that your computer meets the following recommended system specs:
  • 8 GB RAM minimum
  • Chrome is the recommended browser
  • Three or fewer tabs open at once
  • Only one tab with the Bubble editor at once
  • Close all other applications

How do I add my certificate to LinkedIn?

You can add your certificate to LinkedIn by following these steps:
  1. At bubble.io, make sure you're signed in using the correct Bubble account.
  2. Go to your profile by clicking the account circle in the top right.
  3. Under account details you will see your certificate information and a LinkedIn button.
  4. This will take you to LinkedIn. Once you’re signed into your account, a popup will open with your certificate’s information pre-filled. Hit “Save” to add your certificate to your profile.

What happens if my exam crashes?

If your exam crashes, don’t worry. This is rare but may happen if your browser has run out of memory. Your exam session is not lost, and the timer will continue to run behind the scenes. Please refresh or restart the browser and rejoin your exam session to see if that fixes the issue. You'll be required to re-verify your identity upon reopening. We cannot make up the time lost, but we'll replace any attempt if a documented crash severely persists.

This crash could be caused by any of the following:
- Tab overload
- Limited RAM
- Out-of-date browser
- Hardware issues
- Console error

If this happens to you, please open up your developer tools and check the console for any errors. If there are any, please screenshot them and send them to our support team (bubble.io/support).

Be sure to include any other details about what you were doing prior to the crash so we can try to replicate the error.

Can I take the exam in languages other than English?

The community has been requesting that we offer the Bubble Developer Certification exam in languages other than English and we’re looking into doing so soon. In the meantime, it is possible to translate the exam to your preferred language using the Google Translate Chrome Extension. If you are uncomfortable taking the exam in English, we recommend trying this extension. Before you do, please be aware of the following:
  • Google Translate will translate Bubble terminology literally. Be prepared for this, as you may not be familiar with the terminology when translated this way. For example:
    • English: Make changes to a thing
    • French: Apporter des modifications à un object
  • You can hover over the translation to see the original version in English at any time.
  • Translating the exam may impede your response time. Take this into consideration when pacing yourself. As a reminder, you have 3.5 hours to complete the exam.
  • We recommend using this extension only as an aid, not as an official translation.

Follow these instructions before beginning the exam to set up and activate the extension:
  • Be sure you are using a Chromium-based browser (we recommend Chrome).
  • Install the Google Translate Chrome Extension from the Chrome Web Store:
  • Once installed, click the extension icon and select Translate this page from the popup.
  • Select your preferred language from the dropdown menu in the top-left.
  • Make sure the extension is activated before clicking Start on the exam.

Remember: You will not be flagged by our proctoring system for using the extension. One registration grants you two total attempts to pass within a 3-month enrollment window. If you would like to take the translated exam, we recommend doing so on your first attempt in case you would like to use the original English version for your second attempt. If you have any questions, please contact our Support team at bubble.io/support.
